An excerpt from a rant posted by me on a forum:
Yay. A Miyazaki film (Spirited Away) won an oscar, which is an empty award anyway. So some old guys liked it. Yippee. Now every anime site in existence is going to put this in their news. But what does it mean? Absolutely nothing.
This particular film, although aimed at "all those who have once been a 10 year old child," was mostly shown as for an audience of children and anime fans. As most of the people who watched this movie were children, this will not change America's view that "animation is for children", only reinforce it.
I hate to be a naysayer and all... who am I kidding, I love raining on the parades held by people other than myself.
I know it may seem like I'm full of hate and rage lately, but I'm not. I've actually been in a pretty good mood, all things considered.
